Skill and cunning.

Eloquence.

Cleverness.

Charisma.

Art and creativity.

COMMENTS:

You could say that he's crafty. He solves problems. He uses his diverse knowledge, resources, and will to create change in his world.

He will use ideas and imagination to solve problems rather than violence or brute force.

He turns ideas into action.   He gives shape to the chaos of experience.

With his wand he points upward, and with his left hand he points downward   -   "As above, so below."

One interpretation is that he's reaching upward (toward the heavens) for power, and he's directing it downward (toward earth) with his other hand.

In the Medieval Tarot decks, this card represented a traveling conjurer and swindler. Its Italian name, Il Bagatto, is a word derived from bagatelle which means "a little thing." When the Tarot deck was nothing more than "playing cards," Il Bagatto represented the lowest-ranking card in the Trumps. Its French name, Le Bateleur, has the same meaning.

In the 19th Century, the person on this card was reimagined as a Magician who controlled universal creative energies. He manipulated the elemental forces.

The objects on his table are the four "suits" of Tarot.
