The Six of Pentacles tarot card from the Universal Waite deck

1.   Measured generosity; giving only as much as the recipient needs (or is capable of receiving).

2.   A situation which rewards someone only enough that it keeps him from looking elsewhere for satisfaction     -     a humdrum marriage, or a job that's "just barely good enough."

This isn't the same as "Six of Cups"-type generosity.   It is more restrained and conservative, and less self-sacrificing.

With one hand, he's giving out a gift; but he weighed it first with the scales that are in his other hand.

There are seven cards in the Rider deck that show a large, dominant figure "presiding" over two smaller figures standing below it (forming a triangle of sorts):
The Hierophant
The Lovers
The Chariot
The Devil
The Moon
Two of Cups
